Greg Thompson
Enter Greg Thompson – Who is this cute guy?
Greg Thompson is a good man with a heart of gold. He is a man of great integrity. An honorable, trustworthy, reliable person – and frankly, just about the hardest working’ guy in town. When you meet this fellow – with his brainy-brain, sweet smile, patient nature, his glib sense of humor, his handsome rugged face, and that signature cowboy hat, well we know you will want to do business with Greg and his team here at Pennsylvania Tree Service.
Yep, he’s got loads of super qualities. To start with, he’s a loving, dedicated husband and father of 5 beloved and growing children! Like you, he works long hard days, but always comes how with a spring in his step and a smile on his face, ready to spend some real quality time with his family. He often steps into the kitchen to make one of his fabulous dinners that everyone loves. Yum! After dinner, he takes to the desk in the home office and gets down to business, returning customer calls and emails, getting billing and proposals written up, and scheduling the next day’s work. He’s the best.
Greg has been an expert tree surgeon and certified arborist for much of his career ( which spans almost 4o years! ) These days, not too many tree service company owners are also arborists and tree surgeons. But our Greg, he’s the guy in charge, and also the expert way up there in the trees pruning away. But he’s not just pruning trees, he is removing trees, planting trees, grading, land clearing, training and managing his crew, meeting with clients etc. He is a true specialist at estimating jobs fairly and accurately. He also is an honest and earnest businessman – a person you can trust, a person who will stand by his word and his work. Everyday he’s finding solutions to an infinite variety of tree/ landscape problems, and he loves what he does. His experience and know-how is so important and gives our customers peace of mind that he knows exactly how to get the job done the way it should.
You have got to see this man, and his crew work in the trees. It is something to behold, indeed. He is like a super skilled and tireless superhero up there in the canopies of trees, and its impressive to watch him work.
While he is a fast-paced, brilliant technician, one of the nicest qualities Greg has is his genuine concern and care for animals. Whenever he is in a tree that must come down, and sees a nest of baby birds or squirrels, he always saves it and replaces it in the nearest tree so that mama can find it. That’s our Greg.
Climbing to Success
Greg Thompson grew up around here. He spent most of his time fishing, hunting, always in the woods, an outdoorsman even from the youngest years. That classic childhood informs his love of nature today, and the agility, ease and joy he experiences working in and around trees.
When he was just a ten year-old kid, he would find old lawn mowers in the garbage throughout his neighborhood. He taught himself how to fix them and refurbish them, and then started a business cutting lawns for his neighbors. He hired other kids to mow lawns with him, and whenever he refurbished a discarded lawnmower, he would multiply his business.
But nothing could keep this young feller from climbing trees. Couldn’t keep him out of the woods. It was this love of trees that lead him to become an apprentice tree surgeon by the time he was 15.
He worked hard to pay his own way through Valley Forge Military Junior College and later as an adult went to college at night and earned a B.A. from Ursinus. All done while working loyally for an established tree service on the Main Line. He remembers attending night classes, having come straight from work, and the sawdust covering his shirt would get all over the textbooks.
His long-term goal was to become a Certified Arborist, as he wanted to know all that could be known about trees and tree care. In the trees was where he wanted to spend his days and for the trees, he wanted to build his career. He reached those early goals, and still today continues to attend continuing education courses to stay at the forefront of this industry.
He continued in those early days to work for yet another established tree company as a head climber and top salesman, and contributed greatly to their success.
Then, with the support and teamwork of his Life partner and future business partner, Mia, He turned his focus, his vigorous energy, positive attitude, and his unflappable commitment to building his own Tree company: Pennsylvania Tree Service, Inc.
